Big City Design Shopping
Last weekend my sister Linda , a design consultant located in Tampa came up to Atlanta to stay at my Urban Oasis for a few days. It was Scott Flea Market Weekend and we always have a great time there. We have an eye for the same things so it is really fun to go together. It is always the second weekend of the month but you can actually get in Thursday afternoon or Friday morning to get the best items. It is so depressing to go on Saturday and find all the things I would have wanted with little sold signs on them. It is located on either side of I 285 on Jonesboro Road. Here are some of the fun decorative items I got for my beach house.
The next day we headed over to Forsyth Fabrics and Lewis textiles both off of Huff Road near Northside Drive. They have the yummiest fabrics for really decent prices. I recently found a great little sleeper sofa at Jennifer convertibles just the right small size with thin moder arms. It also had a mattress that had an air mattress inside. The only problem was that it was poorly upholstered. I got it for less than five hundred dollars then went to Forsyth and got some fabric that looked like grass cloth for 11.00 a yard. I had the upholsters, B Wilke Design who have a desk there at Forsyth come pick it up from my house and reupholster it. I ended up with the sleeper sofa of my dreams for my beach house for about $1,200.
As we were driving down Peachtree coming after Forsyth we stopped in for a quick Design Within Reach fix. I really want an Eames Blue molded plastic rocker. I love the store but I hate that I can’t just walk out with what I purchase. I am all for instant gratification and I would have already ordered this chair except that if I do I won’t get it for 9 weeks!
Betsy Riley has put together a really great guide to Atlanta design shops for the website blog designspongeonline.com. Check it out. Maybe You’ll run into Linda and I on one of our shopping trips!
