Turn on a Dime

I think flexibility is an important attribute and I keep finding plenty of opportunities to practice it on a regular basis. Last week, I worked for three solid days in the garden with my two amigos, getting all of the beds cleaned up, planted and mulched motivated in part by the assigned author of having a barbecue Saturday night.

While we were at it, I even had the guys repaint the garden walls which were definitely looking a little bleak. Then as I mentioned in my last post, I needed to have some garden furniture and had actually gone so far as to order it from Retromodern when Grant called me not ten minutes later to tell me that there were two gray Philippe Stark Ploofs at the Antique Factory in Chamblee.

When he called that afternoon, I was driving out to Sam’s Club with my sisters, Linda and Dorothy, to get party provisions for the Saturday evening “fix the garden-sisters visiting-inman park festival-barbecue/milonga”. We turned the car around right then and there and headed over to Old Peachtree Road to take a look. Peter, the proprietor of the Antique Factory, did indeed have two of the now out of production Ploofs. I went in, I looked, I paid and he delivered the Ploofs to my house that very evening and placed them in my back yard. We then hopped back in the car and were off to Sam’s. While driving away, I called Retromodern and canceled the Bubble Club Furniture because two vintage Ploofs in the hand are a much better deal that one new Bubble Club Couch in the bush.

Saturday came and we set everything up for the party with tables, table cloths, large votive candles, cushions on the chairs and a bar outside and right after it was done it looked so nice, and then the sky started to look a little gray. I went around and around worrying about it and finally brought everything back in before going to the festival. That was a good thing since it did actually rain some while we were gone. After we got back, things had dried off and out it all went again. By this time it was 6:00 and guests were just starting to arrive. Once again, the skies looked ominous and then they began to rumble. The dark clouds were moving quickly that it could have blown over, but oh well, we again turned on a dime, and hauled everything back in and set up the party inside just in time for a huge downpour that continued all evening.

It did not turn out to be a garden party after all, but the idea of a garden party got the gardening done and things turned out just perfect anyway. As Joe says ” When you need a place to sleep, there will always be a mattress in a Dumpster” (long story-ask him). We ate good food, mingled a lot and danced and danced. Even my sisters danced and got to experience the joy of tango. People finally left about 2:00 AM and I think a great time was had by all, at least I had a great time.
