Paintings for your Floors

floor-clothMy friend Callahan McDonough is another one of the multi-talented women in my life. She is a great artist, a dynamic therapist and the best garage sale hound I know. She is the big sister I never had and she bosses me around like one.

In addition to paintings that are meant to be hung on walls, Callahan also specializes in creating floorcloths. These are made of heavy canvas, painted with many layers of paint and sealed with many coats of polyurethane. They are actually to be used as rugs and to be walked on and mopped and everything.

Callahan made my first one for me over 18 years ago for my kitchen on Oakdale Road back when my kids were toddlers. That one was was a ten foot runner that went right through the main part of the kitchen and anyone that entered the house from the back door walked right on it. After all this time, the way it has aged makes it even more interesting. You would never think it had been walked on for so many years. I now have that one in my office.

Callahan’s floorcloths work really well under a dining room table because you can just mop them when something is spilled. They are also good for homes with pets or for people with allergies. I really don’t know why everyone doesn’t have two or three of them lying around. I do and they are amazing!

Hey Judi this is your B.Sister:
The photos came out great of the floorcloths and the loft ! Its the perfect setting and very cool they get appreciated by you and the constant stream of folks in n’ out. I remember doing the one for your kitchen on Oakdale, Michael and Amanda where still little kids, and I remember thinking what a ‘forward’ thinking woman to want a totally modern floorcloth the length of her kitchen. I now see that was a harbinger of Judi’s creativity to come.
I’m afire with new creative images, this time a large painting for you, it will have the birds your craving and more surprises. Watch out….B.Sis c.mcd. will be on the blog soon. Can’t wait to see what you create for me. Callahan
