Making a Custom Drum Lamp Shade

I bought some fabric that I loved from Forsyth a few months ago and it came in handy the other day for Mary’s Felted Heart space in the Studio 658 building. She needed a light fixture to hang above her seating area. We looked for a great big drum light but the ones we found were all quite expensive.

Mary found one at Pier One for only 69.00 that was the right size. It was covered in a wheat colored linen and the weird thing was it had a sand of real twigs all around it. The twigs had to go and the wheat colored linen was okay, but not great. So, I unscrewed the circle of twigs and took them off. Big improvement. Then I got my yummy fabric and cut it two inches higher and two inches wider than the lamp shade. I turned the edges under and ironed the fabric so that the folded under fabric would just come to the edge of the shade. I used spray adhesive and attached the fabric to the shade, and voila, Instant perfect lampshade. I think it turned out great and Mary made pillows for the couches from the rest of the fabric.
