Maureen’s Ikea Kitchen

Posted August 26th, 2008 by Judi

Maureen’s kitchen is almost finished. We have knocked out two of the kitchen walls to open the kitchen up to the dining room and the den. We put in a large Island to separate the kitchen from the Dining Room. It feels so spacious and inviting now.

We used Ikea’s new, Nexus Yellow Brown cabinets which have a sleek modern look to them. I think they turned out really well. The kitchen counter tops went in today. Corian, Canvas. I got it through Ikea and it was only 38.00 per sq ft, installed. Maureen had been thinking Festival would be nice. That is the white with the little confetti colored specs. I actually used Corian Festival in my kitchen which looks great in my loft, but it would be way over the top for Maureen’s, especially since we are using a colorful backsplash tile from from Susan Jablon Mosaics. You can mix your own custom blends on her website and voila, she sends it to you in a week or so.

The Canvas countertops look fabulous in Maureen’s ranch house. They go perfectly with the mottled slate floors. I always kind of hold my breath when I have talked someone out of what they really wanted and steered them into something else. So I called Drew when the installers were there and asked him if the countertops looked like I thought ( hoped) they would. He assured me that it did and I came right over to see for myself and it was good.

We are also using Ikea’s deep stainless Utility sink with the 18″ tall pot filling faucet. I used those two things in Mary’s studio and they are terrific. I love a deep sink, and its only 24″ wide. Her

Tonight, Maureen’s son Matt is going to put in the backsplash tile. Then tomorrow Drew is going to install the vent hood ( purchased on e-bay for 500.00 ( wait till you see it!) and the side panels of the Island and the wall trim. It won’t be long now. . .
