Salmon are Running in the ATL

Joe Salmon

Joe’s friend Tony is a commercial fisherman in Alaska and he is coming to visit again bringing the finest wild salmon you can buy. Tony will be at Joe’s loft in the Old Fourth Ward for three days starting Tuesday, September 30th with about 2000 pounds of wild sockeye salmon! He has salmon that was really fresh and flash frozen both filets and steaks, and Tony does a really great smoked salmon. Sometimes he also has crab legs and shrimp. Let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you his way.

Smokin’ Hot President?

Posted September 15th, 2008 by Judi

Great article by Michael Seitzman in the Huffington Post called Sarah Palin Naked. It basically sums up how I feel about her. Palin’s recent interviews were atrocious in that they showed her to be a glib, bullshitter who does not have the education, world experience, or depth of understanding and experience of and with people to be the Commander in Chief of our diverse nation on the global stage.

I recently called one of my Republican friends who I use to have great heated political discussions before he moved out of state, to get his views on Palin. Now this guy, is very bright, has six hundred people working for him in the finance industry, and when I asked him about his views on Palin, his first words were,

She’s smokin hot!

Shopping for Caskets On-line

Handmade walnut Casket

My friend Robyn just called with sad news that her good friend Lynn’s brother just died from a very quick bout of cancer. Robyn had been to my Dad’s funeral and called me to find out where we got his casket.

You see when my Dad died was dying he was worried about spending too much for his funeral. One of my sisters and I went to the local funeral home to see about making arrangements and we hated the casket selection. They had aluminum looking metal ones in various colors, that looked like space capsules and were just awful. The wood ones in addition to being really expensive appeared to have the same shiny finish as a Haverty’s dining room suite. And the interiors were made from cheap shiny fabric you’d see on the Adams family.

Kitchen Punchlist Countdown

Posted September 4th, 2008 by Judi

It won’t be long now. Maureen’s kitchen is almost finished. We got the hood hung back up today at a height that won’t poke Ray’s eyes out, finished putting the light rail up, trimmed out the microwave shelf, adjusted cabinets, ordered the thresholds from the tile floor to the wood floor, had the Corian people come out and fix the countertop where they had cut the hole too big for the range (their mistake). Its a good thing it was Corian and not granite since they were able to just melt up some more material and meld it together. Volia, like magic it was fixed.

Felted Heart Studio

Peanut in Felted Heart Sweater

Help, my business is taking over my house!

said Mary Sweeney.

In 2006, Mary stumbled upon a stash of forsaken wool sweaters in a local thrift store, and visions of pretty ponchos for her three year old daughter danced in her head. It seemed to Mary that these forlorn wool sweaters could be rescued and repurposed into stylish, durable fashions for kids. A marathon runner who back in the day, qualified for Olympic Trials. Mary was not running quite as much and when she got this inspiration she sprinted into inspired motion and started cutting and stitching. Other moms started asking Mary to make these lovingly handcrafted ponchos for their daughters and Felted Heart was born.

Milonga with El Flaco Dani

Posted September 1st, 2008 by Judi

In tango there are three types of dances, a typical tango rhythm, a tango waltz and a milonga, which is a fast snappy little rhythm (a party where you dance tango is also called a Milonga which is kind of confusing at first). I love Milonga. It is happy music and it makes my feet happy. This dancer in the video is called El Flaco ( skinny) Dani. He is one of the old Argentine dancers from way back and Milonga is his specialty. When Duane and I went to Argentina, I took a couple of lessons from Dani and he made me feel like I was flying.

Luiza Paes, Tango Extraordinaire in Atlanta

Posted September 1st, 2008 by Judi

Wednesday I went to a class by Argentine Tango dancer, Luiza Paes and a Milonga at Danneman’s. Luiza is here in Atlanta until September 10th teaching beginning and advanced classes. Here is a printout of the workshop schedule. Watch how she dances with David Caditz to Norah Jones’, I’ve got to see you again. She is so smooth and her footwork beautiful. I have a gift certificate for three private lessons from Luiza, that I got from Danneman’s Owners Joe and Kate for helping them out with the design. What a great gift. I can’t wait to schedule my lessons.
