Take Election Day Off and Volunteer to make History

Posted October 27th, 2008 by Judi

Obama is taking the campaign to the people and getting the volunteers out into the community rather than the local headquarters. On November 1-4 the “Get out the vote” effort for the district that includes the Old Fourth Ward will be housed at my place on Krog Street. This election will be decided by what this grassroots movement can accomplish on Election Day.

There are volunteer shifts to fill throughout the day — make calls, knock on doors, and make sure your fellow voters get to the polls. No previous experience is required. So sign up now, take the day off and make history on November 4th. Volunteer for working here and then we can party.

Song for “Misses” Palin

Posted October 23rd, 2008 by Judi

This song written and sung about and to Sarah Palin by two Russian guys, Vlad and Boris is hilarious. I hope they don’t have too much longer to wait until she is back in Alaska where they can look at her through their ” teliscop” they made themselves, “out of duck tape and the thing that holds the rapping paper”. You betcha!

Meanwhile over here in Inman Park things are heating up as evidenced by the fact that someone stole my sister Mary’s McCain sign from her yard. I wouldn’t have stooped to that but I have to admit I am glad it is gone.

Night Tours of the Oakland Cemetery

Posted October 20th, 2008 by Judi

The Oakland Cemetery is giving evening tours this Halloween weekend, October 24,25 and 26. You can go to their website to get a ticket (15.00 adults and 5.00 for children). Come in costume or just come to see the ghosts of several of the more famous residents and get a good history lesson at the same time. This is also a chance to go into some of the mausoleums. Very spooky. . .

My favorite seafood joint, Six Feet Under, a terrific seafood joint is offering 5.00 off per ticket for dinner. So grab yourself a tasty margarita and some catfish tacos to fortify yourself for the experience.

Eight things to do with a Library Card

Posted October 14th, 2008 by Judi

Books, fiction, novels, non-fiction,  magazines, books on tape, computers, classes. A few years ago I made a resolution to start using the public library. This resolution has probably saved me thousands of dollars since I cannot get out of Borders or Barnes and Nobles for less than 50.00 per trip, and sometimes a lot more. [...]

Endodontist with a View

Posted October 10th, 2008 by Judi

The next time you need a root canal, I can recommend Dr. Jeffery Pafford as being the Endodontist with the best
view from his dental chair. This is the view from his 9th floor office in the Medical Building at 755 Commerce located behind Decatur Hospital.

The thing is when I went to get my root canal, Dr Pafford found that my molar aka, tooth number 31, was cracked. So then he had to send me down to the basement of the same building to see Dr. John Muse, an Oral Surgeon, to take the tooth out. Ouch. No, John Muse did a great job. I did not feel a thing until I was home and now it hurts!

Watch Fox News? Change the channel once in a while.

Posted October 10th, 2008 by Judi

Atlanta is a blue enclave in a very red state, especially Intown where I live. So when I do run across people that are voting for McCain, I am interested in them. What are they thinking? How and why are they making their decisions? What I have noticed is that most of the McCain supporters [...]

Bed and Chocolate Martini

Posted October 7th, 2008 by Judi

One bad thing about having a Bed and Breakfast is that I have to get up and fix breakfast for people. I really don’t mind too much except that I am pretty spoiled by Duane. Everyday that we don’t have guests, Duane gets up and makes my coffee and brings it to me in bed. [...]

Artists in Residence

Posted October 7th, 2008 by Judi

I am having a lot of fun running the The Urban Oasis Bed and Breakfast here at 130 A Krog Street in Atlanta. I am not your typical Bed and Breakfast proprietor. First of all, I don’t take just anyone, anytime. If someone calls at the last minute wanting accommodations, I sweetly say, Oh, I’m so sorry we don’t have any availability for tonight. Or if they call with some attitude or weird situation, same response, “no room at the inn”. But we have had some really great guests and actually none that were not great in their own way.
