Salmon are Running in the ATL

Posted September 17th, 2008 by Judi

Joe Salmon

Joe’s friend Tony is a commercial fisherman in Alaska and he is coming to visit again bringing the finest wild salmon you can buy. Tony will be at Joe’s loft in the Old Fourth Ward for three days starting Tuesday, September 30th with about 2000 pounds of wild sockeye salmon! He has salmon that was really fresh and flash frozen both filets and steaks, and Tony does a really great smoked salmon. Sometimes he also has crab legs and shrimp. Let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you his way.

Felted Heart Studio

Peanut in Felted Heart Sweater

Help, my business is taking over my house!

said Mary Sweeney.

In 2006, Mary stumbled upon a stash of forsaken wool sweaters in a local thrift store, and visions of pretty ponchos for her three year old daughter danced in her head. It seemed to Mary that these forlorn wool sweaters could be rescued and repurposed into stylish, durable fashions for kids. A marathon runner who back in the day, qualified for Olympic Trials. Mary was not running quite as much and when she got this inspiration she sprinted into inspired motion and started cutting and stitching. Other moms started asking Mary to make these lovingly handcrafted ponchos for their daughters and Felted Heart was born.

Luiza Paes, Tango Extraordinaire in Atlanta

Posted September 1st, 2008 by Judi

Wednesday I went to a class by Argentine Tango dancer, Luiza Paes and a Milonga at Danneman’s. Luiza is here in Atlanta until September 10th teaching beginning and advanced classes. Here is a printout of the workshop schedule. Watch how she dances with David Caditz to Norah Jones’, I’ve got to see you again. She is so smooth and her footwork beautiful. I have a gift certificate for three private lessons from Luiza, that I got from Danneman’s Owners Joe and Kate for helping them out with the design. What a great gift. I can’t wait to schedule my lessons.

Photo Shoot – Christmas Madness in August

Posted August 13th, 2008 by Judi

It is late and I am tired and the production people are just wrapping up for the day now at 11:55 PM. Today Fizz City Films did a big photo shoot here for a Belk’s Christmas commercial. There were a million people – well at least thirty. And there was stuff and equipment and Christmas decorations everywhere.

The other day at Danneman’s Coffee Grant Henry was royally obsessing about Hollis’s upcoming party for the release of her new book, Trailer Trash and he was blathering on about hoping that at least 25 people would show up for the party. Grant was especially worried after the AJC’s Access Atlanta came out last week with the wrong date!

Dynamic Dish Needs a Sign

Posted July 26th, 2008 by Judi

I have told David the owner and chef at Dynamic Dish a wonderful little gem of a restaurant on Edgewood, that he needs a sign in big orange letters claiming his space. The restaurant is open for lunch most days and dinner on the weekends but its kind of hard to find if you don’t know what your looking for since it is in such an unexpected location.

David makes the freshest organic, complex but at the same time, simple meals that I have had out in Atlanta. Eating there makes me wonder why I don’t prepare food like that everyday for myself. My meals probably wouldn’t be quite as elegant but I like striving for perfection and David’s meals are right on up there.

Dogathletes not allowed in the Peachtree

triathletes-at-the-bash3

The boys are all suited up but won’t be running the Peachtree Road Race tomorrow. I had to break it to them tonight that it was a no go. But they felt better knowing we will be going to the Mountains for a few days. That will make it up to them. I just hope Clifford doesn’t get carsick.

Freecycle: a great idea

Posted July 2nd, 2008 by Judi

I just joined the Freecycle yahoo group this week. It is a site set up for people to list things that they want to give away. People see the post and send a reply telling the poster they want the item and they make arrangements to pick it up. Then they put another post on [...]
