Everybody Loves Trailer Trash
The other day at Danneman’s Coffee Grant Henry was royally obsessing about Hollis’s upcoming party for the release of her new book, Trailer Trash and he was blathering on about hoping that at least 25 people would show up for the party. Grant was especially worried after the AJC’s Access Atlanta came out last week with the wrong date!
It was some good publicity but the article announced the party was going to be last Thursday night instead of the following week on Tuesday night ( last night). Grant, Hollis, and the Access Atlanta editor and writer of the article all positioned themselves outside Paris on Ponce last Thursday directing people away from the parking lot and telling them to come back on Tuesday. I asked Grant how they could tell who was coming to the book launch party and who was coming to the real event scheduled that night at Paris on Ponce. He said that it wasn’t hard since the real event was a birthday for an eighty year old black man. So their thinking was that anyone well under that age was probably there for Hollis, although whose to say she doesn’t have a few 80 year old black fans. Anyway, by 7:15( started at 7:00) on the correct date which was last night there were at roughly 75 people there with more streaming in every minute. Every table at Paris on Ponce’s Moulon Rouge room was filled and people were standing all around the room waiting for the festivities to begin.
There was another whole room with the food and book signing table complete with bologna and american cheese sandwiches on hot dog buns, lots of moon pies and a random assortment of tacky processed food products, though I didn’t see any pickled pigs feet.
Big Mike Geier’s band Kingsized played and there was lots of dancing and carrying on. I so wanted to go to this if I had been in town. Hollis is absolutely brilliant and hilarious, and I look forward to her column every week. What ever happened to her potential TV show? Did they try to do to her what they did to Margaret Cho on All American Girl all those years ago or what?

Becky- Yeah, Hollis Grant Daniel and Lary have some studio interested in doing the pilot. They are working with writers and will be spending some time in LA soon. We’ll see what happens. They are all hilarious, aren’t they? What did they do to Margaret Cho?
