My friend Joe is off to Argentina on the Fourth of July. There are a bunch of us who are very envious. He asked me to give him a list of the five places on my Buenos Aires must see/must do list. So here goes:
1.San Telmo Street Fair on Sundays. On Sundays they block the streets off and vendors come and have a flea market kind of thing in the square and on the streets surrounding the square in this quaint old neighborhood. They had stalls with old vintage cameras and one of vintage record players some with the horns and everything. There were really interesting items I don’t usually see around here.
2. Egyptian decorated restaurant right on the square in San Telmo that I can’t remember the name of. This place had a great grill of mixed meat, hold the blood sausage ( yuck).
3. La Ideal Milonga: They have Milongas in the ballroom on the second floor of this beautiful old two story building that has a famous cafeteria downstairs. It is exactly what you would dream an Argentine Tango dance hall should look like.
4. Darcos Shoe Store: It is time Mr. Joe gets himself a real pair of Tango shoes, or two, and this is the place to get them. I loved this place. I loved it so much that between Eric, Duane and I we bought twelve pairs of dance shoes! Joe you do not have to go overboard but do your dogs a favor and get them a pair of the real deal.
5. La Boca: of course, with my love of color and architecture, I would have to spend some time in La Boca. Our dance instructor, Horacio was born in La Boca. So I think Joe should check it out. Joe is a photographer so he won’t be disappointed.
