I’m Back- kind of
Is Mercury in retrograde? Something has to have been going on. For absolutely no reason that I can fathom, my computer gave up the ghost last week. In desperation, I took it over to the Geeks and they first told me that it was “just the motherboard”. Well, okay, I left my horrible laptop with them so they could transfer the stuff on my hard drives to the laptop and I figured I could use that for a while. The problem with that plan was that I never use this laptop because it does strange things and I have been attributing the weird behavior to it being Vista. The geeks told me that they could optimize it and I would have no problems with it anymore.
The next day I went back to get my laptop and Agent Cox, (isn’t that a bit much?) told me that they could not get neither hard drive to work on any computer. However, he assured me that I could send the drives to their special hard drive recovery center and for a small fortune they would most likely be able to get my data back.
YIKES!
I know, I’ve said it before, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. And I had been backing my computer up to an external drive. For some reason, I stopped doing that about January 2008 and instead backed it up to my second internal hard drive. Yes that was the drive that also got blown out.
Now I am promising God that if he gets me the data back I will ALWAYS back up to an online site somewhere in Switzerland or someplace safe like that. Because the really bad thing is that I have six checking accounts that I have for various businesses and such and they were for the most part all up to date in Quicken and Quickbooks. UGH. If I have to recreate that I will scream. Oh I have already been screaming.
After Agent Cox optimized my laptop it was still strange so I showed him what I meant by strange and lo and behold, it it turns out that the reason my laptop is weird is that it really is weird and its not just because I don’t like Vista. It is because it has had some kind of computer worm or something that made it peculiar and is causing me to have to start from scratch with new operating system software. Since I have to write away for the laptop software, which will take some time, I went ahead and bought a new CPU, with Vista ( its the only way they come these days) and I have spent the free time loading all of my software onto the new machine. (I have to say it is really quite nifty and quick as a fox). But It has been quite a week.
True confessions. . . Duane and I did spend three days at the Beachhouse last weekend. I even went in the water last Thursday before it turned cold. So there has been a bit of a respite from this technological nightmare. I hope that the worst is behind me now. And just maybe I can get back to blogging.
