Prodigical Daughter

Posted May 22nd, 2011 by judi

I started blogging about five years ago and I had no idea what I was doing or what to write about.  But I had discovered WordPress and I realized at the time that this was going to be big; that it was a pivotable moment in my life. I just had no idea where I was going to go with it with it. Or maybe I should say where it was going to lead me.

Back when I started my first blog, there wasn’t a WordPress Meetup Group and I wouldn’t have even known to look if there was. And, I didn’t know anyone who was blogging. I just knew that this type of website allowed everyday people the power to share their lives with others and to us to communicate about their passions in a way a traditional website couldn’t.

I hated my static HTML website for my real estate development business. Whenever I had a new project, I wanted the photos and info about that project front and center, but I didn’t want the last project to be trashed or have to make a crazy rats nest of pages that were hard to navigate.  I actually found out about this new website technology when I Googled my business name and what came up was a post my Dog wrote on Dogster, (think Facebook for Dogs). I swear Craig, my Basset Hound, only wrote three times and he never even mentioned my business name yet that post was number one in the Google search for my business name and my business came up number forty – on the fourth page, where no one ever goes.

In 2008 I started Blog By Knight to be just a personal blog to get my feet wet and begin to try and “find my voice” as a writer.  I learned a lot in this sandbox, but I knew I wanted to do more. I started working on my business sites, UrbanOasisBandB.com and NewTricks.com as well doing some sites for others. When my business sites took off, I had very little time left over for my sweet first blog. I want to come back to Blog by Knight and give it some TLC to get it up to speed and actually use it again. In the meantime you can check out what I am up to at Urban Oasis and New Tricks.

I am glad to read that you are coming back to this…well, that was the plan in May :-) . Have you changed your mind? Been too busy? Just so that you know…I prefer to read about you, your thoughts, successes, struggles, etc., rather than the over my head WordPressy stuff. Remember it doesn’t take much to lose me!

Sorry to hear that things have been a little funky lately (per this week’s newsletter). Maybe another try at “detox dinner” and yoga next week?

    xoxo
